Summary

This project is financed by Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and aims to better understand the fundamental evolutionary aspects of biological invasions. Using small hive beetle (SHB), Aethina tumida Murray (Coleoptera: Nitidulidae), a nest parasite of bees, as a model species we are trying to determine the roles mating and reproduction play in promoting insect invasions by comparing data from the multiple endemic and invasive populations.
